Brouwer, Williams & Goss talk Brouwer

On Thursday, the 27th of April, 2017, I was very fortunate to have attended a very interesting talk by some of the greats of the guitar world, Leo Brouwer and John Williams, mediated by Stephen Goss, at the Instituto Cervantes in London.

Leo discussing the importance of intervallic relationships in his music

It was great to see the three of them on the same stage, talking and sharing their views on what was the great partnership between composer and performer, which was Leo Brouwer and John Williams.

Leo shared a lot about his music and how he used his ideas in his compositions, as well as some of the things he draws his inspiration from, notably Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. He also played quite a few recordings of various music for guitar with other chamber groups.

It was a huge honour for me to have met him in person for the first time! A huge inspiration!
